NEPAL
Following the 7.8M earthquake which struck on 25 Apr and the 7.3M earthquake on 12 May, a total of 8,659 people are confirmed dead. Some 95,100 people remain displaced. On 2 Jun, the Humanitarian Country Team revised the response strategy requesting $422 million to support an estimated 2.8 million people with humanitarian assistance.

Imminent monsoon rains are expected to further complicate relief efforts by blocking access routes and exposing over 760,000 families with damaged or destroyed homes to heavy rainfall.
MYANMAR, BANGLADESH, THAILAND, INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA
On 29 May, Thailand hosted a special meeting on “Irregular Migration in the Indian Ocean” in Bangkok. It was attended by South-East Asian nations, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Iran, plus delegates from international organizations. There was general consensus that traffickers need to be stopped and root causes addressed, and participants agreed to pursue further discussions through bilateral consultations.
727 people rescued 2,500 people stranded at sea
According to the Myanmar Government, 727 people were recovered off the coast of Ayeyarwady by the Myanmar Navy on 29 May. According to state media reports, the military has provided food, medical and other assistance. According to latest estimates, over 2,500 people are still stranded at sea.
On 29 May the Bangladesh Government announced plans to relocate registered Rohingya refugees to Hatiya Island, 150 km north-west of where the registered camps are located. Bangladesh currently has 32,000 registered Rohingya refugees in two camps in the south-east district of Cox's Bazar.
INDIA
The continuing heatwave in India increased the nationwide death toll to over 2,248, affecting mostly poorer workers or homeless. Temperatures reaching over 47 degrees are causing water shortages and death of livestock, driving up food prices. In Andhra Pradesh, the most impacted state, the State Government has offered 100,000 rupees for the next of kin of victims.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH KOREA
Two people died of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), the country's first fatalities from the disease. Deaths from Mers were first recorded in June 2012 in Saudi Arabia.
There have been 1,167 cases worldwide, of which 479 died, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reports.
Experts believe the virus is not very contagious.

FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA
Chuuk and Pohnpei states have experienced widespread rain since 31 May. Flooding in low-lying areas was reported in Pohnpei. No major damage was reported. The weather system is expected to continue through 1 Jun with warnings of heavy rain and flash flooding issued by local authorities.
JAPAN
On 29 May, volcano eruptions occurred in Kuchinoerabu island, Kagoshima Prefecture. Following the Government's alert, all residents, (137 people) evacuated to the neighboring Yakushima island by ferry. The Japan Meteorological Agency continues to monitor the volcanic activities.6 On 30 May, an 8.1M earthquake struck to the west of the Ogasawara Islands at a depth 590 km. The tremor was felt mainly in eastern Japan. Twelve people were injured. No tsunami warning was issued.
