NEPAL
Following the 7.8M earthquake which struck on 25 Apr and the 7.3M earthquake on 12 May, a total of 8,631 people are confirmed dead, with 14 bodies still unidentified. Nearly 460 health facilities are destroyed. Over 25,000 classrooms collapsed while an additional 10,000 require repair. 456 health facilities destroyed 25,000 classrooms destroyed The monsoon rains are expected to arrive in two weeks, further complicating relief efforts by blocking access routes and exposing over 760,000 families with damaged or destroyed homes to heavy rainfall.1
MYANMAR, BANGLADESH, THAILAND, INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA
According to latest estimates, more than 2,500 people from Myanmar and Bangladesh are still stranded on boats in the Andaman Sea. On 20 May, 433 people disembarked from two boats in Aceh Timur District. People are currently being sheltered in Bayeun and are being provided with assistance by local authorities, supported by the Indonesian Red Cross and UN partners. This brings the total caseload for Indonesia to 1,827 arrivals, being hosted in Langsa, North Aceh, Kuala Simpang and Medan. On 22 May, 208 people were rescued by the Myanmar Navy from a boat off the coast on the northern part of Rakhine near Maungdaw. Local authorities provided medical care, shelter and food, with the support of the Myanmar Red Cross, UN and NGO partners.
2,500 people stranded
On 20 May, Indonesia and Malaysia agreed to provide temporary shelter to thousands of migrants believed to be stranded at sea, provided that the resettlement and repatriation process is completed within one year by the international community.2
CHINA
Heavy rainfall, hail and strong winds affected southeastern China since 13 May, triggering floods and landslides and causing structural and agricultural damage in eleven provinces. As of 22 May, the Chinese Government reports 35 dead and a number of missing people.
Particularly affected are Fujian, Jiangxi,
Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Guizhou.3

INDIA
As of 23 May, more than 350 people are reported to have died in a heat wave, where temperatures have reached 48C. The current heat wave began in mid-April but most of the deaths were reported since about 17 May. The worst affected states are Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.4

TONGA
Drought conditions are currently being experienced throughout Tonga.
Drier-than-normal conditions are expected over the next six months across the country. Since January the main island of Tongatapu comprising 73 percent of the total population has experienced significantly below average rainfall.
Tongatapu is where the majority of export agriculture activity is based. Commercial and subsistence agriculture is important for food security and the local economy, providing income and jobs for a large proportion of the population of Tonga. After an extended dry period in 2014, farm crops in Tonga are vulnerable to any further continuation of the current dry conditions.5
SOLOMON ISLANDS
Between 21 and 23 May three earthquakes (two 6.8M and one 6.9M) occurred between Makira and Temotu provinces, Solomon Islands. No impacts were reported.6
